Wyoming National Board Certification Initiative

Goal 1:  25 schools achieve National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification for 20% of teaching staff

Goal 2: Use of National Board Component as a school-wide professional development tool

Option 1

Objective:  Schools will have 20% or more of their staff achieve National Board Certification. Teachers will be encouraged and supported by WNBCI and by their school and district in their candidacy. 

  • Fee Support:  up to $950 contingent on the completion of all four components and registration within the WNBCI deadlines

  • Workshop Support:  all associated costs except transportation and incidentals

  • Proposed Timeline:  3 years 

  • Participation Limit:  10 schools per year

  • Award:  $1,000 minimum, $10,000 maximum discretionary grant payable per school when program requirements are met.  Use of the award to be determined by all teachers in collaboration with the building principal(s).  Award will be paid at $500 per National Board Certified Teacher within the stated minimum and maximum.

  • Award:  “Ellbogen Meritorious School” plaque in recognition of the National Board Certified Teachers in the school.  Ellbogen Foundation staff will make an on-site presentation of the award at the request of the school.

  • Notification of intent to participate and formal acceptance to program is required

  • The program will be evaluated annually and continued based on satisfactory results

Option 2

Objective:  80% of the teaching staff and the school principal will participate in the National Board Certification process by taking at least one of the National Board’s certification components.  They will be supported by WNBCI and by their school and district in their candidacy. 

  • Teachers may choose to take either Component 2 or Component 3 offered by the National Board

  • Fee Support:  $250 from WNBCI, with another $225 reimbursed when “scorable” entry is verified.  The Foundation may request a spreadsheet of scores, but will not ask for detail by individual participant.

  • Participation Limit:  5 schools per year

  • Requirement:  80% of teaching staff and principal must submit “scorable” entries

  • Site Coordinator Stipend:  Based on school size

  • Award:  $500 minimum, $5,000 maximum discretionary grant payable per school when program requirements are met.  Use of the award to be determined by candidates in collaboration with the building principal(s)

  • Award:  “Ellbogen Meritorious School” plaque in recognition of the staff that participated in the school wide professional development.  Ellbogen Foundation staff will make an on-site presentation of the award at the request of the school.

* Ellbogen Meritorious School Districts

The Ellbogen Foundation also provides special recognition to those school districts in which every school is an Ellbogen Meritorious School.
