Wyoming National Board Certification Initiative (WNBCI)
Part 1
Objective: Teachers will give consideration to the National Board process and will participate when the time is right for them personally and professionally. They will be encouraged and supported by WNBCI and by their school and district in their candidacy.
Goal: 60 schools achieve National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification for 20% of teaching staff by 2017.
• Fee Support: $1,000 from State, $1,000 from Federal Subsidy* (total fee $2,565)
• Workshop Support: all associated costs except transportation
• Proposed Timeline: 6 years
• Participation Limit: 15 schools per year
• Award: $1,000 minimum, $10,000 maximum discretionary grant payable per school when program requirements are met. Use of the award to be determined by teachers in collaboration with the building principal(s). Award will be paid at $500 per National Board Certified Teacher within the stated minimum and maximum.
• Award: “Ellbogen Meritorious School” recognition
• Award: A permanent display of the schools accomplishment for the exterior of the building
• Notification of intent to participate and formal acceptance to program is required
• The program will be evaluated annually and continued based on satisfactory results
Part 2
Objective: Teachers will be encouraged to participate in the National Board Take One! process. They will be supported by WNBCI and by their school and district in their candidacy.
Goal: Use of Take One! as a school-wide professional development tool
• Take One! = one video portfolio of the National Board assessment
• Fee Support: $200 from State, with remaining $195 reimbursed when “scorable” entry is verified
• Participation Limit: 5 schools per year
• Requirement: 80% of teaching staff and principal must submit “scorable” entries
• Site Coordinator Stipend: Based on school size
• Award: $500 minimum, $5,000 maximum discretionary grant payable per school when program requirements are met. Use of the award to be determined by candidates in collaboration with the building principals
• Notification of intent to participate and formal acceptance to program is required
• The program will be evaluated annually and continued based on satisfactory results
