Information for Active Candidates

Congratulations! You have completed your application for national board certification. The following support is available throughout the process. Please note that participation in any or all of the elements of the candidate support system is voluntary. Teacher success is our goal and to that end, the Initiative will provide information and support throughout the process. The Initiative also fully recognizes that ownership of the process belongs entirely to the candidate and candidate support providers will not imprint your work.

Fees assistance in the amount of $2,000, will be given by the Initiative. The remaining $565 is the responsibility of the candidate and is payable no later than November 15th. Please ensure that you have checked the box on your application that allows National Board to share your candidacy with a third party. This allows us the access we need to pay your fees.

To acquire an in-depth understanding of the process, the Initiative recommends participation in one Running Start Workshop during the summer or fall. Details are provided in the Workshops section. This is a 3 day intensive experience to enhance a teacher’s knowledge and abilities regarding multiple aspects and requirements of the process. Significant time will be spent on:

* Descriptive, analytical and reflective writing
* Knowing the standards
* Understanding the entry requirements for the portfolio
* Direction for video taping lessons
* Building a wall of evidence
* Outlining the scoring process

All are addressed in an interactive manner for maximum learning. Teachers will leave with a complete understanding of what they need to do to maximize opportunities for success. The Ellbogen Foundation pays the cost of hotel rooms (double-occupancy is required), the majority of meals, registration and all workshop materials. Transportation and evening meals are the responsibility of the candidate.

Details for additional work sessions and the assessment center workshop are provided in the Workshops section.

Candidate support providers and local cohorts also give support to your candidacy. Contact us for more information.
